Neon Signs Done Right: Tips for Writing Your Married Name

One of the most exciting parts of getting married is celebrating your new last name—but getting the grammar right is just as important as the design itself! At The Posh Booth, we’ve seen couples and vendors make a common mistake when creating custom neon signs, backdrops, or photo booth templates: incorrectly pluralizing their last name. No one wants to look back at their wedding photos only to realize their sign said “The Smith’s” instead of the correct “The Smiths”!

So, what’s the right waay to display your new last name? If your last name does not end in “s”, simply add an “s” with no apostrophe.

For example, "The Johnsons" or "The Garcias" are correct.

If your last name ends in “s,” “x,” “z,” “ch,” or “sh,” you should add “-es” instead of just “s.”

For example, "The Joneses" or "The Foxes" would be the proper way to pluralize those names.

What you don’t want to do is add an apostrophe, as that makes it possessive rather than plural. "The Brown’s" (incorrect) would imply ownership, rather than referring to your family name as a group.

To ensure your wedding details are polished and grammatically correct, double-check your signage, custom prints, and especially your photo booth templates before finalizing them. At The Posh Booth, we always confirm name spellings with our couples when creating personalized designs because we know how important these small details are. Whether you’re choosing a neon sign, welcome sign, or a backdrop for your photo booth, getting your new last name right ensures your wedding photos look flawless for years to come!
